I don't think I would have gotten along with Alcott 'cause I can't stand it when women are prejudiced, in general, against other women. It's so sexist, and there's enough sexist behavior out there (against women) without women perpetuating perpetuating a watered down type "WOMEN," then hating their own stupid conception. I think it's ego-centric &%#@.
I think you may have read a little too much into the quote-- I feel the same way you do about female interaction/adversity, and I do not pick that up from this quote. Then again, maybe I'm not looking deep enough...
