I wrote my friend Miranda a review of Jane Eyre. I thoght I'd post it here as well.

Ahem. Okay. Here we go.

The movie was perfect. Really. And you know how much of a Bronte-obssessor I am. I have never seen an adaptation of any Bronte work (even if I love it) that leaves me satisfied. This one did.

You know the lines, moments, feelings, you get when reading a really great piece of literature? That's what makes any movie adaptation so difficult to attempt. A film can't give you what the book does and it so very often leaves out all of the phrases you love or re-words them into a hideous blob unworthy of the text you hold sacred (well, to me anyway :) ). This film doesn't leave any of them out. It's soooo awesome. Of course it's not actually perfect, there were a few lines that I wished they would have included but overall, and specifically compared to all the others, it was a masterpiece.

Jane was perfectly cast. Edward was perfectly cast. You actually see him in the beggining of the film, and much like Heathcliff, he appears "wolfish" and dark. You see him undergo a physical change as the movie progress (one of my fav. aspects of the book) and it is beautiful. The scene when she leaves Thornfield Hall is gutting. Their reunion is divinity. Again, I loved this movie. I had my hands clasped over my heart and was sighing through most of it.

Also, the cinematography was gorgeous.

GO SEE IT RIGHT NOW.

  1. Oh, I want to see it... guess I'll have to wait for the DVD. When it was showing in my area, it was in a cinema too far away and I couldn't travel that far. I read the book for the first time a couple of months ago, so I am looking forward to this film. I have become a fan of Mia Wasikowska too.
